Bathroom Remodeling in Pompano Beach

What lives behind a Pompano bathroom wall.

The average Pompano Beach primary bathroom was laid out around a 1965 idea of privacy: a five-foot tub, one small window, and a vanity for a single person who was not in a hurry. In Santa Barbara Estates, Garden Isles and the older Cypress Cove streets, those baths are frequently still original behind the 1990s tile somebody stuck over them. Beachside in Hillsboro Shores and up in the towers along the sand the problem inverts: the layout is generous, but the shower pan is aging and the finishes have gone quiet. Both roads end at the studs.

Bathroom permits go through City of Pompano Beach Building Permitting and Inspections, on the Broward County Uniform Building Permit Application, with plumbing rough, top-out and final inspections in sequence, which is exactly the sequence that protects you. Two local details catch owners off guard. In a condominium the association's written approval letter is part of the city package, alongside whatever the building requires about riser shutdowns. And on any floor above the ground floor, hard flooring needs an independent laboratory test report showing STC and IIC ratings of at least 50 for the assembly, which is a permit item here rather than a courtesy to your neighbor.

There is no margin for error in a room this small. We flood-test pans before any tile is set, verify slope with a level rather than an opinion, block walls properly for heavy glass and grab bars, and duct exhaust to the outside instead of into a soffit. Original cast iron drains get camera-checked while the walls are open, since that is the only inexpensive moment you will get. Fixed written scope, daily supervision, hard protection over every finished surface the crew has to cross, and one team answering for all of it under Lic. CGC1539072.

What's included

The parts you will never see.

Almost everything below sits behind the finish, which is where a bathroom is actually won or lost. All of it scoped in writing before a single tile is ordered.

01

Waterproofing, flood-tested

Bonded membranes carried up the walls and over the curb, then filled and left standing overnight so a failure shows itself before the marble arrives.

02

Bedroom folded into the bath

Borrowing a closet or a small bedroom to build a genuine primary suite, carrying the layout, plumbing rough-in, framing and permits on a single submittal.

03

Old drains replaced

Camera inspection of original cast iron, then replacement of drain and supply lines while the walls are open rather than after the stone is down.

04

Glass on solid backing

Heavy frameless panels hung on blocking installed during framing, hinges landed in real structure, and thresholds detailed so water goes back where it belongs.

05

Steam, heat and quiet air

Steam showers, heated floors and exhaust ducted to the exterior, with the moisture ratings and dedicated circuits an inspector is going to look for.

FAQ

Straight answers.

How long is the bathroom out of service?
For a full gut, plan in weeks rather than days, and expect the timeline to be set by inspections and material lead times rather than by how fast tile goes down. Demolition, plumbing rough, waterproofing and its inspection, tile, then trim and glass each have to finish before the next begins. Custom vanities and stone slabs routinely arrive last. We place orders first so the room is not sitting open waiting on a delivery truck.
We want the tub replaced with a walk-in shower. Anything unusual in Pompano Beach?
The city treats it as a real bath renovation, not a swap. The submittal shows the full extent of the plumbing alteration with every fixture identified, and the work is inspected before it is covered. Two extras catch condo owners: the association's written approval letter rides along with the application, and hard flooring above the ground floor needs an independent acoustic test report. None of it is difficult when it is planned. It stops an inspection cold when it is not.
Is a curbless shower realistic in a slab-on-grade house?
Frequently, but the slab gets the final word. Recessing a pan means cutting concrete and sometimes rerouting drain lines, which occasionally runs into a beam or a service line you would rather leave alone. On a second floor there is usually framing depth to work with. Where the structure says no, a low-profile curb with correct slope and a linear drain gets you most of the look honestly. We open a small test area and find out first.
Does salt air near the beach affect bathroom fixtures?
In Hillsboro Shores houses and oceanfront residences, absolutely, especially where a bathroom window opens toward the water or the unit runs on outside air. Faucet and shower hardware finishes corrode faster, and living finishes such as unlacquered brass go their own way in a hurry. We specify hardware and exhaust equipment rated for humid coastal service and vent moisture out properly, which does more for longevity than any finish choice you can make.
Where does the money actually go in a bath remodel?
Stone, glass and fixtures set the visible budget. Drains, waterproofing, framing and ventilation set the real one, and the second list is where owners underestimate. We scope the building as we find it, put a fixed number against a written specification, and flag in advance anything only demolition can answer. Our clients hire us for certainty and finish quality, not for being the cheapest of three quotes on the kitchen counter.
